| The 1980's were the most interesting time for the development and distribution of digital printing equipment. During this time several major manufacturers of calculators had seen the window of opportunity for the printing marketplace, spurred by the rise in computer sales.
Digital printers, copiers, digital presses and plotters became the new mass merchandising that changed forever how people prepared written reports and letters. Quickly, the dot matrix and daisywheel printers would forever give way to the laser perfect prints generated by superior print engines developed in Japan. |
Who would have guessed the wide appeal for paper communications would have the stamina to remain at the leading edge of communications verses viewing documents on a computer monitor?
Today we can print entire books in limited quantities, print on demand, or create huge signage on colour plotters that would stretch across several store front windows. Flyers and handbills are now generated at amazing speed within minutes of the artwork being created. Digital printing on demand is here to stay. article by J. F. Ednie |
